Yosemite February 2017 Instagram Monthly Review

This is the Yosemite February 2017 Instagram Monthly Review. Yosemite National Park was inundated with winter storms throughout the month of February causing major damage to two main roadways leading into the park on Highway 41 and inside the park on Big Oak Flat Road from Highway 120. Highway 41 repairs are ongoing with delays into Yosemite. Highway 120 currently has no access into Yosemite Valley. Make sure to contact Yosemite National Park for updated road conditions before visiting. Upon arriving in Yosemite Valley, visitors were greeted with snow covered cliffs and booming waterfalls throughout the month of February. As a result we were able to capture many majestic scenes including Half Dome and Yosemite Falls. Water saturated the meadows of Yosemite Valley, and I was able to capture several reflection shots.

Yosemite January 2017 Instagram Monthly Review

This is the Yosemite January 2017 Instagram Monthly Review. Winter storms continued to reinvigorate Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevada with several feet of fresh snow. Yosemite waterfalls have been full since November, and we are still anticipating a huge spring waterfall runoff. Finally, it appears the California drought may have ended. This is welcome news for us all!

Yosemite December 2016 Instagram Monthly Review

This is the Yosemite December 2016 Instagram Monthly Review. Winter returned to Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevada in full force in December as 2016 ended with a bang. Warmer temperatures brought mostly rain to the lower elevations as storms pummeled California. Elevations above 10,000 feet received a steady dose of snow. The realities of climate change prove although all precipitation is welcome, much of the rainfall turned into runoff before it could be captured for future use. However, most Yosemite waterfalls have been full since November, and we are anticipating a huge spring waterfall season.

Unofficial Yosemite Facelift cleanup is not about the glory or the cup. I have led a Half Dome hike during Facelift for the last few years. This year I contacted @yosemitefacelift early to see if I could preregister. Our groups always keep the Half Dome trail, among many others in Yosemite, clean by removing trash. The organizers of the event wanted us to participate but @yosemitenps said no. They specifically stated that we needed to register for archaeological site training and had to wait until 8 am to register. I tried to explain the hike begins at 5:30 am. Despite my lack of training, I decided I would still help the ranger at the cables by hauling down this 20 pound bag of used gloves. I am certain I did not disturb any archaeological site. It was another unofficial and possibly illegal Facelift act, but the ranger didn’t seem to mind and appreciated the help. Maybe next year we can officially participate & I can finally get a cup. #unvolunteering #nocup #nocupnoglory #notabouttherecognition #facelift #yosemitefacelift #trashyourtrash #yosemite #halfdome #halfdomecables #yexplore

July 2016 Yosemite Instagram Monthly Review

July 2016 Yosemite InstagramThis is the July 2016 Yosemite Instagram Monthly Review. July was one of the most heavily visited months in Yosemite National Park history. This year, we are on pace to shatter record visitation to Yosemite with some estimates over 4.5 million visitors. July was also a time to leave Yosemite Valley and head for the high country of the Eastern Sierra. Our guided Yosemite backpack trips were able to take advantage of the reduced crowds and spectacular scenery of the Yosemite backcountry.

In July we also said goodbye to our trusted intern Chase Daftary who spent a few weeks with us snapping photos and making videos. He had to return to Florida State University, but he vowed to be back. Chase expertly handled several Instagram takeovers for the YExplore feed in July, and we promise you will see more of his brilliant work in the future.

June 2016 Yosemite Instagram Month in Review

Olmsted June 2016 Yosemite InstagramThis is the June 2016 Yosemite Instagram Month in Review. Yosemite National Park was an exciting place to be in June. Just ask President Obama and the First Family who visited on Father’s Day Weekend. I was honored to be invited to that event, and those photos will be coming shortly.

Waterfalls continued to highlight Yosemite visits and many trails that highlight them like the Panorama Trail became more accessible. The Tioga Road also provides access to some of the most amazing views in Yosemite.

In June we also ascended Half Dome with some great groups including our friends Wizz, Christian, and Peter which was a memorable trip. The Half Dome hike is definitely one that can be more manageable when you share the experience with family and close friends. Yosemite’s Mist Trail dazzled hikers and always provides a much needed cool shower from Vernal Fall at the end of a long long day.

‪My name is John DeGrazio & I am posting #‎330pushups‬ for #22kill on the summit of of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. I am doing push-ups in an attempt to raise awareness on the fact that 22 AMERICAN VETERANS will commit suicide today! I was nominated by Kurt Wolken. Today, I am nominating Spencer McDonough @spencermcsuhdude. If you accept, copy and paste this to each video. Everyone has a purpose! Continue to find emotional and physical strength you never thought existed. Please help spread the word that Veteran suicide is NOT the answer. A new video will be posted each day for the next 22 days, each with someone new being challenged. -Take a video of yourself executing 22 push-ups to your ability level. -Post the video to Facebook and other social media by using hashtags above. -Tally your push-ups (I.e. A group of four people in the video doing push-ups would like ‪#‎88pushups‬ for ‪#‎22kill‬ -Call out your friends, family, battle buddies, shipmates, anyone… The sky is the limit. The goal is to raise awareness for our service members who are battling this demon. This is a very important issue that our veterans deal with on a daily basis. Not all have dealt with these conditions first hand but all of us have known someone that has. This is in honor of the ones we lost too soon.

May 2016 Yosemite Instagram Month in Review

Bear May 2016 Yosemite InstagramYosemite National Park continued to sparkle in May. The waterfalls kept booming and vernal reflection pools were everywhere. In our May 2016 Yosemite Instagram photos I was able to represent the lush green Valley and sprinkled in some black and white images. I also shot a couple of videos which became instantly popular, including my first black (blonde) bear sighting of the year. We noticed the bear on the opposite bank of the Tenaya Creek. It was on the other side of the trail so you can imagine our surprise to see it pop out right in front of a gathering crowd of hikers. The bear seemed nonplussed by the onlookers as it grubbed on a few different logs and attacked a beehive full of honey.

Yosemite Falls Path
The Path to Yosemite Falls awaits your feet by John P. DeGrazio

Reflecting on an April to remember in Yosemite National Park with our April 2016 Yosemite Instagram Month in Review. There is so much beauty in the Sierra Nevada when we have wet winters and springs. After four years of drought, we were happy to see emerald green meadows and reflective vernal pools of Yosemite Valley. The waterfalls are an absolute delight with rainbow like mistbows forming in their spray. Many trails are now accessible in Yosemite Valley including the Four Mile Trail to Glacier Point. The Glacier Point Road is now open too but can close at any time during spring storms that may bring snow to higher elevations.
